Canon Printer Troubleshooting
My Cartridge doesn’t fit the printer.
Check the cartridge is compatible with your printer in the ‘Compatible with’ section.
If you have a Canon photo printer, check the black cartridges are in the correct position.
Make sure that you have removed the tape and orange disc/clip from the new cartridge.
I have installed my cartridge and received and error that the cartridge is missing or faulty.
If you have a Canon photo printer, check that the photo black cartridge is installed in its correct position- it has a different slot to the fatter regular black cartridge.
If your issue is still not resolved, remove the cartridge from the printer and while the printer is still on, remove the power by switching off the printer at the socket. Leave the printer for 10 minutes to allow all power to drain and the error to clear.
In the meantime, find the chip on your cartridge and give it a wipe with some tissue to make sure there is no ink or dust interfering in the communication between the cartridge and the printer.
After 10 minutes, switch your printer back on and re-install the cartridge.
If this did not resolve your problem then unfortunately the cartridge is faulty and should be returned to your store.
I have installed several cartridges at the same time and received an error that the cartridges are missing or faulty.
If you have completed the above steps and you still have the same issue, reinstall the old working cartridges, and replace the new colour ones one by one, thus identifying the faulty cartridge.
My print quality is poor.
Canon cartridges are a tank with ink, the technology is held in the printer head and therefore if there is no error message then the printer maybe at fault.
Try a head or nozzle clean a few times on your status monitor or print screen on your printer, this may clear any air bubbles that may be blocking your print,
A Red light appears on my cartridge when it’s in the printer, what does this mean?
A remanufactured cartridge has an LED light in the same way an original cartridge does.
If it is flashing, the cartridge is empty and needs to be replaced.
Should I update my printers firmware?
Printer manufactures can use the update of Firmware to block the use of remanufactured/recycled cartridges by using a ‘cartridge lock’ this will enable to manufacturers to introduce a ‘new generation’ of the same cartridge.
Manufacturers introduce an automatic download for this reason.
We suggest that you disable this option so that you can continue to use remanufactured cartridges, which are better for the environment and more cost effective.
My cartridge is running out of ink faster than it should.
This is true for both original and remanufactured cartridges.
The page yield is based on 5% page coverage life test. This is, if you only fill 5% of your page, your cartridge will print for a given number of pages.
If you print photos, graphics or a full page od text, you will be using more than 5% page coverage.
So, with normal everyday printing, the page yield listed is unlikely to be the same yield that you will get from your cartridge.
